The Best Cities To Explore In The UK (Top 3 Picks for 2020)
One of the most culturally significant countries not just in Europe but also in the wider world, the UK is an excellent tourist destination, oozing culture that has influenced many different people, and with plenty of variety, too, depending on which city you choose to visit.
Got a little bit more time on your hands, and planning your next minibreak for after the pandemic is finished? If the UK is set withing your sights, then here are three of the key cities that you might decide to plan for and explore.
London
The UK’s capital is the first place that many think about when visiting the country, and for good reason: not only is it by far the most popular spot for people coming to visit the country, for both business and tourism purposes, but it holds some of the most iconic, striking and recognisable landmarks, from the houses of parliament and parliament square, to the London Eye, the Shard, and more.
If you’re planning on visiting London, then it’s probably a good thing that you’ve got some extra time on your hands to prepare before you’ll be able to go. Being such a densely packed city, there is so much to do that you will want to carefully plan ahead, and it’s pretty expensive so you’ll want to get saving too!
Liverpool
Sporting fans will quickly notice Liverpool as an impressive global force in the footballing world, with the club (LFC) winning the prestigious Champion’s League last year, and also being well on their way to winning their first Premier League title when the delayed season resumes. Even if you’re not a football fan, however, the northern great has plenty to offer, from art galleries, to historical sites and architecture, to state of the art retail spaces, bars and restaurants.
These city break plans might not be happening any time soon, but with Liverpool that isn’t necessarily a problem. The city is constantly growing and evolving, and will continue to thrive, becoming an even better place to live/visit. RWinvest stated in their most recent Coronavirus-centred podcast that the current Liverpool waters project is the largest regeneration project ever in the UK after the Olympic Village development in Stratford. Alongside the like of the cool Baltic Triangle sector, this sort of growth will surely make Liverpool an excited place to be for many years to come.
Manchester
Another footballing giant, Manchester and Liverpool have staunch footballing rivalries that have lasted a long time, and it’s thought of as one of the most prolific worldwide footballing brands. Putting that aside, however, the city is a fantastic Northern alternative to London as a buzzing urban hub, and fairly nearby to Liverpool, too, so you might be able to visit both in one trip.
If you’re a music fan and want to experience a bit of nightlife, Manchester has a great bar, club and music scene. From huge arenas to small, intimate venues, there is always something happening in the area of an evening, and with a young population (driven by the fact that it’s known as a university city) the excitement is palpable.
