Life is an adventure – but it can be a pretty boring one if you don’t spend your time wisely.

Between your nine to five job, arguments with your other half, cooking ready meals and binging on Netflix box sets, most of us have an adventure that’s closer to Last of the Summer Wine than Indiana Jones.

But there’s one thing that can brighten up your life – travel.

When you travel and experience new cultures, you feel revitalised, but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch your responsibilities to trek the globe.

If you’re savvy you can experience the best of both worlds, the one of travel and the one of progression in your career.

Here’s how.

Get distance learning

Distance learning used to be fustier than your grandad ranting about Al Jolson. It was done via post, the snailiest mail in existence.

Then the internet came along and gaining a distance learning degree a streamlined and efficient experience, one in which you could study anywhere and at any time you liked.

So you could be completing a Management degree inside an Israeli Kibbutz or working on a Leadership qualification on the Great Wall of China.

What does this mean for you? You can study and travel at the same time, putting you in good stead upon your return home.

Get freelancing

If you’re a writer or graphic designer, working ad hoc comes part and parcel with your lifestyle. Whether you’ve helped write a website homepage for a friend’s business or penned a short story collection in your spare time, you know the drill – work from wherever you like and gain some coin.

This’ll give you greater financial security while you travel and save you having to hunt for menial jobs whenever you hit a new town.

Freelance jobs are always available from sites like Fiverr or People Per Hour, so give them a look.

What does this mean this for you? You can make extra cash on the move.

Teach English

If you can speak English there’s a very good chance you can teach it. At least that’s the attitude taken by Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

With some training, they’ll find you a place as an English teacher in a foreign land. Some people stay in Buddhist temples teaching English to monks, while others shack up in Tokyo or Rome.

The choice is yours. And if you enjoy yourself, you can travel to a new TEFL destination once your placement is completed.

What does this mean for you? It’ll look great on your CV and improve your communication skills.

Become an au pair

Looking after children might not make for the most relaxing travel experience, but it’s a great way to make some small change while you’re abroad.

Many agencies are always looking for qualified travellers to hire as affordable au pairs, so check online and see what’s on offer.

What does this mean for you? You’ll make extra money and fill and gaps in your CV.

That’s out list. Can you think of any great ways to continue your career while you travel? Then let us know in the comments below.
