We read a LOT of other Travel Blogs in our spare time to get inspiration for our own trips. We also like to highlight some of our travel buddies on our blog so then you can be inspired by them as well.
So this week lets meet Duane and Kim from Wright2Travel.
Duane is a true blue Australian and Kim a loud and proud New Zealander. We are currently in Montville in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland Australia and it is Day One of our around the world adventure. We will spend the next two weeks discovering a little more of Australia before flying to Singapore and moving north through Asia, onto Europe, to South and Central Amerinca, through the USA and up through Canada. We plan for many side trips along the way so who knows where we will end up!
How long have you been travelling for?
1 Day! 30th January we said farewell to friends and family and set off South to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for some great walking tracks and relaxation after the last few months of intense travel planning. We are 1 day into our RTW adventure and loving every moment so far!
Tell us about the first moment that made you just want to become known as a traveller?
Kim: I had an Aunty that travelled a lot and each time she would come home we would talk about her travels and how, when I was older we would take a trip together – so from a young age I dreamed of going overseas like my Aunty did.
Duane: When Kim talked me into it! I loved ‘holidaying’ and never considered being a long-term traveller. Kim slowly convinced me over a period of 4 years how amazing long-term travel can be so now I’m just as addicted as she is!
What’s your favourite destination and why?
San Francisco is an amazing city! There is so much to see and do, the restaurants in the city make the best food and the people are so friendly – there is just a fantastic vibe in the air. We are looking forward to another visit when we make it back to the USA.
If you could show up to any airport and pick any destination, where would you go?
Kim: I would go to Sweden – I can’t wait to go dog sledding and experience how people survive in such a freezing climate. I also would love to get a glimpse if the amazing Northern Lights whilst there.
Duane: I would go to Africa to see The Great Migration and experience the African culture and way of life.
What is the most disgusting thing you have eaten or drunk on your travels?
So far the most disgusting food for Duane on previous trips is eel and for me a full platter of raw fish. As we are only on day one of our travels we are yet to indulge in the world of disgusting food on the road but we head to South East Asia in 2 weeks so watch this space!
What do you never travel without?
Kim: A ring given to me 10 years ago by my Aunty. She use to take the ring on her travels and now it’s with me on mine.
Duane: I-trim pro electric shaver – long lasting rechargeable battery, cheaper that razors, close shave with a cutting length of 0.4mm, easy to use and low maintenance – a must have!
What has been the biggest adrenaline rush that you have ever experienced?
Kim: Las Vegas Rollercoaster on top of the New York New York hotel. I screamed so loud for so long I started to see white dots and nearly passed out!
Duane: On the back on a ute in Vanuatu in the rain heading to the blue lagoon – it was wet, wild and dodgy but so much fun!
The ultimate travel tip you wish you had known before you started travelling is….
Packing cubes! We had never heard of packing cubes when we went to America but discovered them when researching for our RTW trip – we were hesitant but decided to give them a go. We can’t believe how awesome packing cubes are in keeping our backpacks organized and making everything so easy to access.
And where can we find more out about you?
