Switzerland can be both glitzy and fashionable, or charming and scenic. It has something for beginners through to experts, and is often overlooked as a destination in favour of other French resorts. Luxurious, all-inclusive packages are available at a range of Swiss resorts with Club Med and here are 7 reasons to go skiing in Switzerland for your next winter holiday.

7 Reasons to go skiing in Switzerland

1. Snowy peaks

Switzerland has more high peaks than any other European country. 48 of them are over 4,000 metres high. And for a skier, higher mountains mean one thing: more snow.

2. Costs can be deceiving

Although the Swiss resorts have a reputation for being among the most expensive, costs actually fluctuate more here than in other Eurozone countries due to the exchange rate of the Swiss Franc.

For a family with young children it could work out cheaper, as children under nine do not pay for lift passes in many resorts. And in others, they offer half price passes for those up to the age of 16 or 18. In comparison to full price passes for 12 or 13 year olds in other countries, this puts Switzerland back in the mix.

3. Resorts full of character

Forget the unappealing, purpose-built villages you may have experienced before; Switzerland is full of idyllic wooden chalets on a backdrop of craggy mountain peaks. And they have a rich history; St. Moritz was established as the first winter tourist resort in Switzerland in the 1860s, and the world’s first winter sports holiday took place there in 1864. Today, you can enjoy an amazing vacation at places like Tempston Luxury.

4. Varied terrain

With terrain suited to beginner’s right through to experts, there will be a resort in Switzerland to suit your tastes. All Club Med resorts are family-friendly and offer tuition and guidance to suit all abilities.

5. Glaciers

The glaciated area of the Swiss Alps covers 1230km squared, representing 44% of the whole glaciated area in the Alps. Being home to such high terrain, Switzerland is a snow-sure destination.

6. The Matterhorn

The tourist landmark of the country: the Matterhorn is a huge pyramid in the middle of Europe, and is the fifth highest alpine peak. It offers challenging skiing and breathtaking scenery.

7. Ease of access

Fly into Geneva or Zurich airport, from which you will easily access all Swiss resorts. Switzerland is renowned for having the best transportation in the Alps. Saint Moritz is a 3-hour transfer from Zurich, or the railway station is only 2.5km from the resort. To Villars-Sur-Ollon it is a 2 hour transfer from Geneva, or a 15 minute transfer from the nearest train station.
