How about instead of watching giant pandas in a case or yard far away, holding them in your arms? Not everyone can reject taking a Panda tour.
There are several panda bases in Sichuan Province where there are most amount of pandas living in allowing tourists to do the panda volunteer job so that you can not only see the panda in a close distance but also get to know more about the life of panda.
Dujiangyan Panda Valley: The Nearest one with Voluntary Chance
Dujiangyan Panda Valley is the nearest one to Chengdu city (50km) located at Qingchengshan Town of Dujiangyan which offers voluntary job to tourists.
It is supported by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Covering 760 mu, the valley is consisted of Panda Health Center, Panda Recovery Region, Panda training and breeding Region, Public Reception and Education Region and Natural Vegetation Region where there could accommodate 170 pandas living. Tourists can book and sign for the volunteer job to cleaning panda house, feeding pandas, watching panda documentaries and making steamed corn bread for pandas.
The volunteer program is about 700 RMB per day. It doesn’t accept individual volunteer. You should book a program at local travel agency.
Wolong Panda Base
Wolong Panda Base has more than one hundred pandas once inhabited there and re-opened after the Wenchuan Earthquake. Situated in the southwestern Wenchuan County, 130km away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, although Wolong National Nature Reserve is one of the World Natural Heritages in China, the tourists coming here are less than in other panda bases due to the hard transportation.
Besides the volunteer job, tourists can also hug the pandas and track the life path of wild panda in the forests.
After the Wenchuan Earthquake, Wolong National Natural Reserve had been reconstructed into a better ideal place for living and reproduction of giant pandas for its warm and humid climate which breeds good bamboo which is panda’s favorite food.
Being different from other regular zoos, Wolong National Nature Reserve provides wild natural environment for pandas so that they would never be kept in cages. While touring in the reserve, you may come across cute pandas accidently.
There are 2 kinds of volunteer tour according to different ages and different size scalp of groups offered by Wolong Panda Base that 2-day trip and 3-trip. The volunteer job is about visiting the panda compound, cleaning the leftovers, making steamed corn bread, watching documentaries and holding pandas. 3-day trip has one more activity that trekking with the research guide in the pristine forest to explore and track the wildlife.
Ticket Price: The Entrance fee for the reserve is 15 RMB and 20 RMB for separately tour in Panda Museum. The price of volunteer job is about 120 USD per person per day.
Chengdu Panda Base – The Nearest to Downtown
Chengdu Panda Base is the nearest one to Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. Owing to the convenient transportation, it is suitable for tourists who have limited time and tight schedule with a sincere heart and love for panda. It is only 10km from the city center of Chengdu, where you can take the public bus or the railway system to. There is a Giant Panda Road connecting the center and the base. Giant Panda Valley was officially opened to the public in 2015, with a Giant Panda Museum, a Giant Panda Scientific Mystery Museum, a Giant Panda Hospital and a Giant Panda Kitchen.

Taking the taxi to Chengdu Chengdu Panda Base costs you 30 RMB and within 1 hour depends on the road condition.
Bifengxia Panda Base – The Best Natural View
Bifengxia Panda Base is a part of the Bifengxia Mountain Parkland, a national AAAA parkland with natural mountainous view and wild animals which is 150km away from Chengdu in Ya’an city. Tourists can also sign for a volunteer program.
It is consisted of Giant Panda Breeding Region, Giant Panda kindergarten, Giant Panda Hospital and Giant Panda Research Center.
