There are lots of things to love about London, from the history to the culture and all manner of things in between. Certainly one thing that we have come to love about the city is the vibrant market scene. Each of London’s markets offers something individual but they can also be a great place to simply pick up the daily basics like fruit and vegetables. It is this combination that really makes the markets worth visiting when in the city.
Alfie’s Antiques Market
This large, indoor market is a real treat for anyone who loves hunting for a great bargain. There are over 75 sellers who regularly set up stalls here and you can find all sorts from 20th century jewellery to second hand furniture. It is one of the largest indoor markets in the city and if the range of stalls wasn’t enough to catch your interest, it also boasts a rooftop café which offers wonderful panoramic views across London.
Borough Market
Borough Market is a foodies paradise with everything from artisan produce to organic fruit being sold here. It’s not too far from the Park Grand Paddington Court either so you can ensure you get there nice and early before trade really picks up. Saturday is the main day to visit and you will find that by mid-morning many tourists have arrived and things get a little more hectic.
That said, it’s very centrally located so once you’ve set off from your Paddington Court accommodation and finished at the market you should easily be able to head off into the heart of the city and continue your day exploring.
Brick Lane Market
Located in East London, Brick Lane Market is a truly special example of all that makes London’s markets great. If you are staying in one of the hotels near Paddington Station London then reaching Shoreditch shouldn’t be too difficult and once you are there you can really indulge in the eclectic and vibrant East London atmosphere. Brick Lane is a second-hand lovers dream with plenty of market stalls, second-hand shops and vintage clothing shops surrounding the area. It’s also home to some of the best Bangladeshi and Indian restaurants in London if you fancy getting a bite to eat afterwards too.
Camden Market
One of the biggest markets in London, Camden Market is split into five different sections which each offer something slightly different, though with over 1,000 stalls in total you aren’t exactly going to be short on choice! Depending on the day that you visit and the part of the market you head to, there is almost anything you can think of being sold here from used books to arts and crafts jewellery, vintage wedding dresses to contemporary fashion. If you like a lot of choice and want a market which is open seven days a week then this is the place for you. Make sure you factor in time to explore Camden village itself as well.
