The Greek Islands are a summer holiday dream, with something for everyone and no shortage of parties. If you want something a little more sedate however, one place I would suggest you look into is the Island of Thassos.
Island of Thassos
Miles of beautiful, white sand beaches, baked by the intense summer sun, with quaint villages and plenty of history for those that like a little more from their holiday destination. The Island of Thassos is ideal for those that like to combine beach life with a little bit of nature, and especially those that are into their walking.
Holidays to Greece leave from the UK very frequently during summer, and you’ll find some great deals to be had.
One suggestion I would make, to help save money for travel wherever possible, is to look into great value airport extras, including the one I can’t rate highly enough – Airport parking with Holiday Extras. I find the convenience second to none, and the cost is fantastic.
Most large UK airports offer a service, so see what’s available at your nearest terminal. I recently used the facilities for car parking at Gatwick airport and would certainly use them again.
Once you’re in resort on the Island of Thassos, you’ll find it easy to get around with a good bus network connecting all major resorts. I’d suggest you hire a car if possible, as I always find this the best way to really explore the island and get the most out of your time away.
You’ll find the most in the way of tourist facilities, especially where the beaches are concerned, on the west of the island, but Golden Beach is quite popular on the east coast.
In my opinion, to see the best view of the island, jump on a boat trip.
I always do this trip regardless of where I am in the world, and there’s nothing more relaxing than floating around in the sun with beautiful scenery passing you by.
Thassos Town is the main area, and you’ll find lots in the way of architecture and ruins, including an imposing amphitheatre. You’ll also find the best in the way of shopping here, and I’d certainly be spending some of my Euros here on souvenirs for those you had to leave back at home while you enjoy the sun.
You also won’t be short on adventure activities during your holiday on Thassos, with plenty to keep fidgets at bay, be it walking and hiking on one of the many trails on the island or simply chilling out with a good book at the end of a busy day.
Don’t expect thumping night-life, although the town on the Island of Thassos does have the best in the way of the action, it’s never loud and raucous. Instead, the pace of entertainment is much more sedate and laid-back. Which is perfect for a nice meal and a glass or two of ouzo.
Be it a family holiday, a couples adventure, or simply somewhere a little different, the Island of Thassos is great for peace and relaxation.
Just remember to cut costs wherever possible, to make your holiday even kinder on the pocket, by checking out great value extras. So book Heathrow Parking in advance, and you’ll begin your holiday with a smile on your face, as you’re sure to end it too.
