The end is nigh!
That is if you decide to believe in the 2012 Mayan prophecy that was recorded 5,125 years ago basically outlining that on the 21 December 2012 it is the end of civilization as we know it.
Quite frankly I think it’s a load of hogwash and the dude that was writing down the dates got sick of recording all those years on a stone tablet.
However, let’s entertain that thought for a minute…
From today (Friday 20 January 2012) you have exactly 336 days remaining for the rest of your life. That is just 11 months and 2 days. More precisely it is 485,000 minutes and counting…
It’s one helluva scary thought.
I have been asked before whether I would want to know the day I die. I can honestly not answer that question. If you had the chance, would you want to know?
On one hand, it would be fantastic because you could tick off everything on your bucket list. However, on the other hand, knowing what was inevitable wouldn’t that just make you to want to wrap yourself in cotton wool and hide from everything?
If you knew exactly how many minutes you had left in your lifetime would you waste them?
Would you sit in that same traffic jam every morning and night to get to and from that dead-end job that you hate to go to EVERY. SINGLE. DAY?
Would you sit in front of the television pushing your microwave meal around your plate wondering “what might have been“?
Would you watch your life slip out of your hands with regrets knowing that you had never experienced so many things that travel could have provided like White Water rafting in Canada, Ice Climbing in Scotland, kissing snakes in Marrakech, Snorkeling with Turtles in Samoa or touching the Great Pyramids of Egypt.
Or would you turn the throttle on your life and hurtle towards the end so that when the day does come you are content with your life knowing that you lived it to the full?
So whether or not you are like us and you don’t believe that we are all going to perish on 21 December 2012 then excellent! BUT, that is no excuse for not grabbing 2012 by the balls and making this your best year ever!
